One Size Doesn't Fit Every Coloring Book
Some coloring books work best as a varied collection (a different animal or scene on every page). Others need a consistent character that carries a story. And sometimes you know exactly the look you want and just need the tool to execute it. That's why our Coloring Book Generator now offers three distinct generation modes. Here's when to use each — and how to prompt them well.
Mode 1 — 🎲 Varied Pages (the default)
You give a theme; the AI plans a different concrete subject for every page and rotates composition, pose, and detail level so no two pages feel like clones. This is the right choice for most sellable books — "jungle animals", "fall scenes", "cute desserts".
Prompt tip: be specific with the theme. "Cute forest animals" produces a far more coherent book than just "animals". Not sure what to make? Hit 🎲 Surprise me for a specific, ready-to-use theme.
Mode 2 — 📖 Story Book
Pick or describe a character, give a simple plot, and every page follows that same character through a sequence — great for kids' books where continuity matters. Add short narration under each page and you have a story-plus-coloring hybrid.
Prompt tip: keep the character description concrete and visual (species, clothing, one signature accessory) so it stays consistent page to page.
Mode 3 — ✍️ Custom Prompt (new)
This is for when you have a specific vision. You write the exact art prompt and we keep your wording, apply the coloring-book line-art style, and vary the pose and composition on every page so a whole book built from one idea still looks varied — not 40 identical clones.
A simple prompt formula that works:
- Subject — who or what is the star (a cheerful cartoon corgi).
- Action / pose — what they're doing (casting sparkly spells).
- Setting — where (a magical library full of floating books).
- Mood / style cue — the overall feel (whimsical, friendly, detailed).
Put together: "A cheerful cartoon corgi wearing a wizard hat, casting sparkly spells in a magical library full of floating books." The generator ships with clickable example prompts and a 🎲 Random prompt button so you can start from a proven structure and tweak.
Words to Avoid in Any Mode
Because this is line art for coloring, drop words that pull the model toward finished, shaded, or photographic art:
- ❌ "photo", "3D render", "realistic", "shading", "watercolor", "full color".
- ✅ Let the built-in style lock handle the "clean black outlines, white background" part — you focus on subject, action, setting.
Why Your Model Choice Still Matters
Behind the scenes, the tool now uses a stronger text model to plan more distinct, creative page subjects — the single biggest factor in whether a book feels fresh or repetitive. On the image side, Stability is the balanced default, Flux is the budget option for simple kids' pages, and GPT Image is the premium pick for intricate themes. Match the model to the book.
Avoid the #1 Mistake: Publishing the Same Book Twice
The fastest way to a "monotonous" catalog is generating near-identical books. Vary your themes deliberately across a series, and if you catch yourself repeating a theme, the generator will now warn you. Diversity across your titles is what turns a few books into a browsable, buyable collection.
